Gymkhana 2.1 Featuring Ken Block and Rob Dyrdek

News 400 Comments

As seen on MTVs Rob Dyrdeks Fantasy Factory, Gymkhana 2.1 takes the epic cinematography and driving from DC Co-Founder and Rally Team Member Ken Block that youve come to expect from the Gymkhana videos and mixes in Rob Dyrdek in his comical and somewhat powerful miniature version of Blocks rally car. The two, who have worked together and been good friends since Dyrdek joined the DC skate team in 1995, decided to get the shifter car built and film the clip when Dyrdek made an appearance in the Gymkhana TWO video earlier this year. A custom mold was made to build the shifter car nearly identical to Kens Subaru WRX STI (except for the head-out-the-roof part). The team at Vermont SportsCar wrapped the shifter in the same graphics as Blocks competition rally car, and a custom fireproof, FIA certified driving suit just like Blocks was even made for Dyrdek. The Gymkhana 2.1 video features all the near run-overs, drifting, racing and shenanigans that occur when two unique individuals like Dyrdek and Block hit the tarmac in polar-opposite-sized whips. Resurrected Just in Time for Easter…

We know many of you haven’t missed us much since our last issue but we’re baaaaaaack (yet again)!

Our spring issue launches with one of the nicest 05 WRX we’ve had the pleasure of featuring. It was so nice we had shot it twice both before and after the transformation. Gracing the cover as well is the beautiful Michelle. Contrary to our previous models she does infact own and drive a Subie, so let the leg humping commence ;) . Packed inside our always free PDF’s pages is our usual assortment of Subie features as well as Primate Picks, Project Car build ups and more. Also with the addition of the new issue, we are releasing a new web gallery featuring the lovely michelle. Make sure and go check that out in our model section.

We hope you enjoy the issue and be sure to check out the online web features in addition to the regular issue to bring you swinging into spring.

Finally, if you have a DSLR and want to show us just how die hard the local Subaru owners are in your area send us a message via our contact form with the subject “meets” and tell us about what local events you’d love to see in TMT.

Thanks for the continued support.

Subaru Impreza World Rally Car PRO-WRC-97-001

Submitted by Jeff B

The very first Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC), which debuted at Rally Monte Carlo in 1997, is for sale for £85,000 on a new website dedicated to pre-owned Prodrive-built rally cars.

The 1997 Impreza WRC, chassis number PRO-WRC-97-001, was the very first car built under the new WRC regulations introduced in 1997. During the season, this chassis was used by Colin McRae, Pierro Liatti and Kenneth Erikkson before being rebuilt and sold to a Prodrive customer in 1998. It has now been fully restored to its original condition by McKinstry Motorsport in Ireland and liveried as it was at the Rally of Finland in 1997.

A further seven former works Impreza World Rally Cars and 17 Prodrive Impreza Group Ns are also currently for sale via the new site. Prices range from £50,000 for a 2005 Prodrive Impreza Group N to nearly £350,000 for an early 2008 specification Impreza WRC.

Only rally cars which were originally designed and manufactured by Prodrive to FIA regulations are being sold through the website: www.prodrive.com/carsforsale.

oh noez!! The Toybaru on hold

News No Comments

Submitted by Rich Pena

Well it looks like the global financial slowdown has claimed another victim. It seems the “Toybaru” that has been rumored all over the internet has been put on a indefinite hold by Toyota and Subaru. Too bad too, a rear wheel drive car based on the wrx platform probably would have been a blast to drive. Check the source to read a bit more on this.

SOA Donates 4.6 Million Dollars to Charity first of its kind!

News No Comments

Submitted by Jeff B

With the highly successful “Share the Love” campaign. Subaru split up 4.6 million dollars between 5 charities. Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Habitat for Humanity International, Meals On Wheels Association of America, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

The “Share the Love” campaign not only boosted sales between November 24th 2008 to January 2nd 2009, but also raised awareness for the charities involved. Subaru of America donated $250.00 for every new vehicle sold within this time frame. When purchasing a new vehicle, the person buying the car had a chance to select which of the five the $250.00 dollar donation would go to.

With the state of the economy, and how it directly affects the car industry, it is a breath of fresh air to hear good news like this. “Thumbs up” to you Subaru, for running a great marketing campaign, as well as raising awareness for these charities.

Custom Travis Pastrana STI

-Subaru Press Release-

Subaru of America, Inc. will show a one-of-a-kind Subaru Impreza WRX STI designed for its factory rally driver Travis Pastrana at the Chicago Auto Show, February 13-22 in McCormick Place. Subaru worked with Pastrana to create a brilliant yellow “199″ liveried WRX STI to commemorate his third consecutive Rally America National Championship. Pastrana is scheduled to appear at the Chicago Auto Show to sign autographs in the Subaru booth February 14th and 15th.

Winner of nine X Games Gold Medals, two for X Games Rally competition, Pastrana’s street ride had to be as formidable on the road as his racing WRX STI is on the rally circuit. The Travis Pastrana WRX STI is not only a visual stunner, but also amps up performance capability of the stock production Impreza WRX STI. Vermont SportsCar, technical partner for Subaru and builder of the team’s rally cars, customized the WRX STI using an array of Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) and STI parts, along with unique custom pieces. The SPT and STI engine, exhaust, chassis and interior parts showcased on the Travis Pastrana WRX STI are available for any WRX STI through authorized Subaru dealers.

Travis Pastrana: Rally Star

Pastrana was already a motocross champion and X Games gold medal winner when he launched a rally career in 2003. He began driving for the Subaru-backed Vermont SportsCar rally team in 2004.
